i have read through all the reviews in this location. I was curious because I have done take out multiple times and wondered what others thought. Some reviews have talked about the small portions within the salads and soups. I decided to watch them make my salad today. I ordered the turkey bacon panini and the asian chicken salad. As usual, they quickly and accurately took the order and told me to head to the register where my food would be sent to meet me. I stayed and watched them make the salad. It clearly made them nervous. I was asked several times if I wanted to order soup, and told twice that my food would be at the register. Each time, I told them I was watching them make the salad. Each time, the employee joined in to make the salad; a total of four employees added ingredients to the salad, which was made correctly. I was amused. I don't find the portions too small or skimpy. I never have and today was no exception. The sandwich and salad were tasty and filled me perfectly. I do find it odd that I seem to get the tiniest chocolate covered strawberry each time I go. My husband always gets a properly large strawberry. Aside from that complaint I have none. In regards to the employees, they always seem efficient and friendly, if not a bit socially awkward, which comes with their youth.

Third Zupa's this week. I usually get their ultimate grilled cheese panini and soup. Love their mushroom bisque and tomato orzo with bread. Free chocolate dipped strawberries but they also offer cheesecake and creme brulee. Parking at this location can be tricky and the interior layout is a little convoluted.

Great food and great atmosphere. The staff is so friendly I always have a good experience. I love getting the pick two combo with a sandwhich and soup. They have a charging bar for your electronics and a large drink selection with syrup flavors you can add to make a custom drink. One of my favorite lunch/dinner spots.

I'm a big fan of Zupa's. It makes me feel good. Their food is prepared to order and they use fresh ingredients. It's fast food, at fast food prices, that doesn't give me that guilty and/or sluggish feeling I get after eating typical greasy fast food. I'm sure they use all kinds of preservatives and I'm sure their meat and veggies all come from factory farms and processing plants, but at least it looks and tastes like real, fresh, food. Welcome to 'Murica! This is how we do food, now. The servers and bussers here are always friendly and in a good mood. They give you free samples of the soup before you buy it, which is great, because most of the soups are WAY SALTY. My advice, get the "try 2" combo with salad and sandwich. Avoid the soup.

If one were to rate a place on interior alone, this is an easy 4 stars. It is filled end to end with very nice vinyl on the wall listing various ingredients and LED edge-lit acrylic signs, some of them on very nice satin aluminum standoffs from the wall and most in blue. It looks almost more, in some areas, more like a very modern bar than an actual restaurant and I don't just mean the iZupa's Charging Bar, either. Lots and lots of HDMI displays as well, all very nice-looking and all with various imagery changes. Combine that with a ton of plastic and lots of chrome and this has a very slick, very modern feel. They also have a very efficient sort of assembly line set-up, though the myriad of choices can cause lines with various indecisive patrons at the crunch times. They go slightly over the line and get into "too busy" territory with the visuals, which is why it's not a 5 for interior, but décor overall is great. Food, however, not so much. This is a very unimpressive place, but one expects that, to a certain degree, from chains. My wife called the entire thing pedestrian, but it was more or less what I expected. So, I wound up with a piece cake still frozen in the center, but which was very bland in taste. Someone commented that what's not to love about a chocolate-covered strawberry, but them not being in season and mega-sour comes nearly immediately to mind as answer to that posed question. I think we ate one of the three that we received. My son's favorite part was the oyster crackers, which is about as ringing of an endorsement and overall summation of the meal as could be, I suppose. Both myself and wife (because she's a copycat) ordered the Cubano. She ordered hers without the Dijon mustard, which they couldn't bring themselves to do the first time, apparently. I never expect chains to do this sandwich right and kicked myself for doing it as soon as they brought it to the table. The grilled Panini part was fine, Dijon was questionable, sweetish pickles are dead wrong for this kind of sandwich and was by far the worst component, not only tasting bad but ruining every bite it was in. The ratios was also off for the meat. Generally 1/3 ham to 2/3 pork is about right, but here it was maybe 90% pork or so. That pork was also far, far too salty and my impression was that it was probably what they used for pulled pork, as Togo's also likes to do. Staff was friendly, for the most part, but the inflexibility of being able to substitute various things into combinations was a pain. This is a corporate level thing, though and not related to this particular location. Would I eat here again? Possibly, but not unless it was very convenient, such as on a road trip at a time when I was particularly hungry, enough to sacrifice quality for speed. In many ways, this is like the Olive Garden of sandwich places, just not quite that crappy.

Zupas is just good, not great. I like eating here because the food is fresh and good, but they are stingy as HELL!!!!! They literally count how many HALVED GRAPES they put on your salad. One scoop for soup, etc. they will charge you to add tortilla strips to your already measly bowl of soup. I mean it's all really good food but you have to order a lot to get full and then it's like just as expensive as a sit down restaurant! Just stop being so cheap Zupas. you're always busy, so you obviously aren't hurting for the extra 59 cents

Zupas is awesome! My kind of a lunch spot. Many selections of sandwiches soups and salads. This place is delicious. Every order comes with a chocolate covered strawberry. Exactly what I was craving. This is My first time here. I'm from San Jose, Ca I've never seen a Zupas out there but I'll look into finding one by me. I'd would definitely frequent this place.

My husband and I come here all the time. I think the staff is very friendly and nice there! I love their yummy soups and salads! The only thing that really bothers me sometimes is when you want a little extra something weather its extra nuts on your salad or extra tomatoes or chips on your soup or salad they ALWAYS say, that will be extra, just for a TINY BIT! I think that is quite ridiculous! I go to a lot of yummy places that just pile things on and when you ask for extra they give it to you because they want you to keep coming back. Honestly if their food wasn't so good I probably wouldn't be going as often. But I love their soups and salads!

I don't if it's just this location or all of the location has this problem. I ordered a cherry balsamic chicken salad and found only three pieces of thinly sliced chicken in my salad.......It was more like a strictly vegan salad than a salad with meat. Other than that the salad was good

One of the worst pulled pork sandwich I have had in my entire life. The honey mustard concept is totally weird to me. My other friend, same sandwich, remarked that it had way too much cabbage. Not surprising since you can pretty much watch them just slap it on with no real respect to quantity. Not their fault, I'm sure they just don't know. I don't like that this location pretty much hides the drinks and garbage cans. Staff was nice and helpful, hence 2 stars.

I wish Zupas had more locations than just Utah and Arizona!! It's a panera like concept with a subway feel. You can choose from their signature salad or create one yourself. Pair it with a bowl of their DELICIOUS soup (MANY options) or half of one of their sandwiches, and you have yourself a relatively healthy meal! I went with my friend while visiting him in SLC and created my own salad. The salad I created was OK and after like 4 ingredients you pay beaucoup more - so it may just be more worth it (wallet and taste buds) to get a premade one. I paired it with their chicken tortilla soup. Pretty sure I was LICKING every last drop! Holy crap this soup was delicious!!! YUM! They serve your meal with a chunk of their fresh bread (duh, delicious - who doesn't love BREAD??) and a chocolate covered strawberry! delicious. The employees were friendly! The only annoying part was when the salad bar guy that kept telling me every 2 seconds that the next ingredient would be extra - I got that after the first 3 times you said it, thanks. I wasn't under some delusional thinking that once I got to 3 extra ingredients, they would be free again. Overall I enjoyed this place and would constantly pick up food from there if I lived in the Sugar House area!

Unless you want to be skimped on meat and everything but lettuce don't go here. We ordered a half chicken salad and a turkey bacon sandwich and for starters the meat was clearly packaged and not quality. In the salad they use tiny little spoons to add on your toppings so you get about a teaspoon of anything including the chicken. There was literally one sliver of chicken on the salad and when we back to servers to get more they said that was the serving size.... How is one tiny sliver of chicken a serving size? They weren't even eager to add one piece and left is at that. Definitely a rip off for how much you play and how little you get. For 10$ I can walk across the street to whole foods next time and get a fulfilling salad with the toppings of my choice. Not to mention that Zupas also charges you .69 for any extra toppings even on the soups and for .69 cents all you get is a tiny sprinkle of cheese or whatever you choose. But hey at least you get a free chocolate dipped strawberry but not a full serving of meat for 10$!!!!

I used to really be a fan of Zupa's-- after all, there aren't a whole lot of great salad and soup restaurants-- but my last experience here is enough to keep me away. My mom and I both ordered salads and the employees were so miserly with the lettuce, you'd think they were rationing food. When I kindly asked for a little more lettuce the girl looked at me like I was asking for her first born son. She then walked back to the greens and added three more pieces of spinach. I am not exaggerating. Three. I wouldn't be too upset except that I'm paying $6 for a salad it costs Zupa's like, thirty cents to make. If you want a good salad, head to sugarhouse BBQ, just down the street where the portions match the prices.

Service here was amazing. We found ourselves in an embarrassing position and the manager stepped up and helped us out.

Zupas has pros and cons, but more often than not, it's an unpleasant experience. The ordering process is complicated and the enthusiastic yelling at you: "Can I get some soup for you?!?!" "Do you want a salad?!!" Combined with the neon blue lighting makes me almost sick. I can't eat my food there because of the noise and lighting, but if you want take out, call before 9, or they won't allow it (really - it's on the recording when you call). What really troubles me is they won't give you nutritional information - they are very vague about ingredients if you ask, and it is not available online. No calorie counts, ingredient lists, fat grams, carbs ... Nothing! What are they hiding? In my opinion, the best bet here is to get your favorite soup (they're good, but all salty) and a salad. Only get a sandwich if you love white bread and minimal ingredients.

Okay, someone found a new favorite lunch and dinner spot in the 'hood! My husband and I tried Zupas last night before a movie at the dollar theater- what a perfect little date! We had a great dinner and are looking forward to coming back again! When we first walked in, I was sort of overwhelmed because of the neon lights, the large menu up on the wall and the dividers set up to corral people waiting in line. Then I noticed the menu printed on paper, which made it easier to take in the whole menu. Lots of salad and sandwich options, which were, well, overwhelming, so it took us a couple of minutes to get through the menu. Luckily no one was waiting in line behind us. I ended up ordering a Vegetarian sandwich and the Tomato Basil soup with orzo pasta. Matt chose a panini and also went with the Tomato Basil soup. Our meals also each came with a chocolate covered strawberry and bread for the soup. The bread on my sandwich was super soft and tasty, but the "housemade pesto spread" that came on it was not super good. It looked and tasted like mayo with flecks of dried basil in it. Decent sandwich, though. The soup was excellent- yellowish instead of typical red and very chunky. We both loved it with feta! The drink situation is amazing here- they have all of the typical soft drinks, but also offer two flavors of Crystal Light, as well as about 12 different soda syrups in pump bottles to add flavor to whatever drink you chose from the soda fountain. Peach in Sprite? Raspberry in Coke? Don't mind if I do! I also noticed that they had a wall of electrical outlets to plug in and charge your electronic devices. Probably not super necessary, but very thoughtful. We didn't use it, but I saw others taking advantage of it and I appreciated that!

My team from work wanted to order lunch to go, but when we called in, the worker who answered the phone told us they do not accept orders over the phone, which was strange because we had done it before. When we went in to order, we noticed that they did indeed take orders to go, but we had to wait in line. When we reported this to the manager, she was very unprofessional. She said she knows all of her staff and they wouldn't say that. She then asked to see our phone so she could check our call log and verify that we called the right Zupas. I know the difference between Sugar House and any other location when I call the number. What a joke of a manager. As if that wasn't enough, they messed up our order. Our team collectively decided that we will not go to Zupas again for lunch. It was just too much trouble and the staff is unprofessional and uninformed.

Zupa's is probably my favorite of this genre of eatery. It might be that you get a chocolate covered strawberry with your meal, but it might also be that I just like their sandwiches and soups better than the others. Or maybe the decor is modern and unfussy and I like that. Who knows? This location is clean and the employees are super friendly, and it's in a shopping plaza with a bunch of my favorite things. One neat thing I also noticed while I was here is that they have a counter with charging stations for phones and such so that you can recharge your tummy and your stuff at the same time.

I was really excited for Zupas to open up closer to my house. This is a great lunch spot, and the value can't be beat. You walk in and are greeted by a million people, and asked questions a million times as you go down the assembly line, so be prepared for that. I feel like they are trying way too hard in the customer service department, but maybe I'm just easily annoyed. I always get either a sandwich and half salad, or a sandwich and half soup. This combo is about $8 and includes a hunk of tasty soft bread and a chocolate covered strawberry. I leave absolutely stuffed every time. I pretty much love all their soups that are horrifyingly bad for you, like the clam chowder, the lobster bisque, and the cream of mushroom. You can sample each before making up your mind. A really good specialty soup is to ask them to do half a ladle of clam chowder and half a ladle of the lobster bisque. Soooo creamy and delicious. My favorite salad is the red raspberry. This salad comes with baby spinach, grapes, pistachios (I don't get these on mine), dried cranberries, pears, blue cheese, red raspberry vinaigrette. To die for. Parking at this location suuuuuucks and is a hellish nightmare during any holiday shopping or on weekends when the dollar movie theater literally takes over the entire parking lot.

His place is really cool. I'm new to Salt Lake City and I was recommended this place by someone. The combo of a half salad, half soup or a full sandwich is really good and the chocolate-covered strawberry is a really neat touch, would definetly recommend this place to others !

Clean, new, friendly and happy employees, healthy food choice, very tasty. The onlu down side is small portion for a big eater like myself. But if portion size is not important and taste is important this is the place.

The food is ok and they do make it quickly which makes up for the craziness of the ordering process. I will wait in line at lunch for a good 15 to 20 min to tell one person the food I want and how I want it. I then wait some more time in line to then tell another person what I just ordered. The concept may work just fine for a single person. I am a family of four and I have to remember the four different salads and the four different main courses all while I am trying a wrangle two kids. So I find myself talking to my wife sitting down preparing our table across the restaurant to remind me what she ordered. Why not have it like Einstien's? Take my name and order and then have me pay down the line by telling you my name and not my entire order again!

I'm unsure of the real ingredients in the food at Zupas, but the menu is relatively straightforward; Soups, Salads and Sandwiches designed to satisfy just about any palette. But actually, the best part of the Zupas meal is, what I call, "The Reward"...A delectable Chocolate covered strawberry, covered in mouthwatering, chocolaty goodness; a true "culinary" gem. It's considered the reward, simply because it seems like I'm being rewarded for repeating my order seven times to seven different people before paying. That's right, 7!!! And I should mention having to tell those seven over-enthusiastic-sugar-pumped-souls how my day is going. As each one (bless their little hearts) asks this with joyful glee in their voice, I half-way expect them to break into an inspirational soliloquy......but, this has yet to happen. Sadly, while ordering, my demeanor usually doesn't match theirs, and in a fit of anti-exaltation, I suddenly feel like telling those little soup angels my true feelings. But sometimes honesty isn't the best policy, especially if I'm having a less than desirable day. Besides, I wouldn't want to ruin their sugar buzz and total over-the-top energy, which, consequently, makes me wanna put extra "After Death" Hot Sauce in my soup and consume excess amounts of Coke Zero. But back to the repeat order thing. Either this is brilliant marketing, or just some evil, sinister way for management to pick on customers solely for their own amusement. I'm not sure. In any case, I surrender. They win. Game Over. Because I can honestly tell you, by the end of the ordering line, I'm out of words, I'm tired, deflated. I'm drained of what enthusiasm I came in with, and damn ready for that chocolate covered strawberry. In fact, gimme two please......before the meal.

I've eaten here twice and both times had to go home and suffer through a migraine. This makes me wonder if they use MSG. The employee I spoke to yesterday said they use a proprietary spice blend that comes from corporate and no one knows what's in it. I find that suspicious. He also added that "yeast is MSG" which it is not. And they don't have coffee.

So my husband and I eat at Zupa's a lot. We tried the sugarhouse location and we were VERY disappointed. First they only fill the bowls halfway. When I questioned this I was told it was "policy". Second we got home with our soup and found that the lobster bisque had no lobster in it all and the wild mushroom did not have a single mushroom. So disappointed !!! Will never go back to the sugarhouse location. Will NEVER visit this location again

Yes, it's a chain, but I always get the savory mushroom bisque + the HBC. Glad to see one opened up close by in Sugarhouse.

I really love Zupas! I think the food is delicious- I am a big fan of salads to begin with, but their BBQ chicken salad is so yummy! I love that salads/soup come with bread, and each meal comes with a chocolate strawberry. I think Zupas is a place you won't feel guilty eating at, because it is mostly healthy if you order it that way. However, my mother hates coming here, only because of the service. They do rush you through and they are constantly asking if you want to add a sandwich, or soup, or dessert, etc. If you tell them what you want at the beginning, you have to remind everyone else along the way or just tell them 'no thanks'! My mom hates them rushing her, and I understand it is an assembly line and there are people behind her, but it takes only 2 seconds longer to give her time to think and to order what she wants, rather than displease her with the service she has gotten. My suggestion is to know EXACTLY, down to to the last piece of cheese, what you want before getting in line. Or they will make you feel somewhat stupid for looking at the options while others are behind you. Besides the rush of ordering, the food is great. I think its worth it, but my family doesn't enjoy dining in.

I'm so excited about this new location. The workers behind the counter were very enthusiastic as they had just opened and were probably still happy to have a new job. My "create-your-own" salad was delicious and well-balanced. My husband was not so pleased when the check-out clerk gave him pressure to purchase gift cards. Their free WIFI is quite fast--I was able to "skype" in the restaurant.

Where on Earth (or where in HI) can you get a sandwich/salad combo for under $8??? Plus, you leave with left overs since one of the two is usually super filling and satisfying. Clean, fresh and friendly describes this place to a "tee!" The bread is oh-so-soft and will keep well in the icebox for at least 2-3 days.

love the food. hate ordering the food. it's stressful. the employees aren't rude, it's just, i feel like i have to give myself a pep talk before facing the rapid fire questions. it's overwhelming and confusing. don't change your mind once you've committed. it'll screw up the entire machine. the sandwiches and soups are tasty . i've just started trying the salads and i wish i had done it earlier. nice kids menu too. (i love getting a bite of the grilled cheese)

We went for the Free Lunch party. Could not believe that everything was FREE! There was no limit on what we ate for lunch or dessert. Free drinks and my daughter even won a $25 gift card. I had the Nuts About Berries Salad with Wisconsin Cauliflower soup. A Diet Dr Pepper and topped it off with Million Dollar Bar. Excellant fresh food. Go for the grand opening and get free dessert along with prizes.

My first time to a Cafe Zupas and I really liked it. Who says fast food has to be bland and over cooked, Zupas proves it does not have to be. I had the soup and sandwich combo which gives you a choice of any small soup and choice of any sandwich for $7.99. My choices were the Lobster Bisque which turned out to be a very nice soup with good lobster flavor and not overall thick but just right in that department. The Asian BBQ Pork had an excellent flavor with a very noticeable bite (spice) but not at all overpowering, really an excellent balance of flavors. Large selection of salads on the menu plus a build your own option. You order what you want as you walk along the salad bar and pay at the end of the line so you can see pretty much everything that matters. I for one expect to return often!

Can't go wrong with Zupa's. Tasty and cheap and usually everyone can agree to go there since they have so much delicious variety. While I am happy they are now close to me in Sugarhouse, it's the worst location ever. You could drive out to the Cottonwood Heights location and back before you found a parking spot.

Tasty soup and sandwiches. It was clean and staff were friendly. Italian club sandwich was very tasty - i much prefer this to the panini. Nice charging bar and wi-fi. Only negative, staff were a little to eager to clear plates before we finished.

Fake robot greeting followed by pretty crappy service and so so food. When they missed half of the order they gave us the wrong order because they don't listen. Dinning room pretty dirty, might want to have the greeter clean tables a sweep floor. Gross

It was my first time ever going to Zupas. I know weird. I live in SLC. My favorite thing about this place is how different the menu is. I like to eat out a lot for lunch and I have noticed that many Menus end up the same but this place is different enough to bring new flavor a to my plate. The only thing I was disappointed with was the drink selections. All of the drinks were soda. There was no option for tea, lemonade, or even coffee! How can you be a cafe without at least those drinks! Other than that, portions are big and the food is served hot.
